Home node: Neu-Ulm — the Bavarian twin city on the right bank of the Danube; the state border runs down the middle of the river. On the far bank: Ulm, and the cathedral in the elevation on the left, the Ulm Minster — a Gothic Lutheran church begun in 1377 and finished, slowly, over the following five centuries.

Its spire, completed in 1890, stands at 161.53 m: still the tallest church spire in the world from 1890 until 2026. Engineers tend to like this fact.

Also: Einstein was born across the river in Ulm, in 1879. The Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm (1953–1968) helped shape modern industrial design and visual identity.
